Determine Scope of Care

  1. Have you set a financial ceiling to support? Is there a limited amount of time that you can provide per client?
  2. What happens when you exceed financial/time limits?
  3. Where are funds best directed to support this person long-term? ex. hotel fees or legal counsel?
  4. What can you spend on (airfare, health, legal)?
  5. Do you have legal counsel that can advise you on immigration questions?
  6. How would you handle requests from Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA)/ Law Enforcement? See:

Determining Status

  1. Do you have PR or Citizenship?

    1. If yes, they have status & rights to services.
  2. Did you come here on a work permit, student, or visitor visa?

    1. Is that permit still valid? What date?
    2. If its a work permit, is it open or closed?

  3. Are you seeking asylum?
